Our company participates in the project of JSC "Russian Railways" for the development of intelligent systems of diagnostic tools for monitoring the pre-failure condition of freight cars in operation. During the implementation of this project, the thickness of the wheelset ridge is automatically measured and analyzed, which results in a large number of detachments along the route. The effect of this project can be called multiplicative.
First, it gives us the right to choose whether to send the car for repair, based on our tasks, or not. If we see from the measurement data that the thickness of the ridges of the wheel pairs is less than specified in the Rules of technical operation, then we make a decision about repair. Accordingly, we have a sharp and automatic reduction in the number of rolling stock that is not suitable for loading.
Secondly, we can check the correctness and validity of uncoupling cars in the current uncoupling repair, if it uncouples due to a fault "thin ridge". If, according to automatic measurements, its thickness is more than 27 mm, we can go to a joint Commission inspection together with employees of JSC "Russian Railways" and check the validity of the uncoupling.
Third, we can check the quality of the repair itself, that is, how well the wheel pairs meet the requirements of the instructions after the repair. We understand that if the car were in the planned or current repairs and punch list there is a record that the turning of the wheel pairs, double pass, and a month or two measurements of thickness less than 25 mm, it is likely that the depot had a repair on paper only, and double pass the turning was carried out. These are the main advantages of the project for monitoring the pre-failure condition of cars.
Previously, we sent cars for loading, and then it turned out that some of them were found unfit, and they had to be put in repair. Now we send cars from repair with thick ridges for loading, and this allows us to save both money and time, increasing turnover.
